JUNE 2014 UPDATE

Sport2Business win 2nd major society victory in 2014

S2B followed up their Conares Sharjah match play trophy earned in March 2014 with the Ecco Golf Society challenge victory at Dubai Creek on Friday June 27th. When interviewed organiser Russell Yeomans commented as follows- ' this is a tremendous boost for our society, testing our games every Monday under lights at the Faldo plus monthly sortis at the best of the UAE is obviously toughening up the games of our members. Most importantly the guys ( and girls) love to compete and this win really was fantastic golf on the day by all 8 players on a very tough track. There are always Heroes so I would like to hold out Simon Earl (Dubai personal best) and Jonathan Jeffrey who managed an amazing 45 points better ball, and the only female member on the day Kristi Sealey who used her course knowledge to great effect.
These societies bring a lot of joy to all so thanks to Ecco and Dubai Creek for putting on a great day and to our society sponsors, DWC Business Parks, Derwent Executive Search Partners and AVE ( Audio Visual Entertainment) who make Sport2 Business happen.

Simon Earl and Kristi Sealey were the two closest to the pins.
Welcome greetings to Mark Davies, Rohit Reddy and Robbie Tobias and welcome back Randy Mohammed after a notable absence.

In the Matchplay the outcomes were as follows:
Derek D beat Matthieu
Russell beat Gabriel
Randall beat Simon
Roger beat Bruno
Nick beat Nicola (hubby beat wife - not literally)
Eric beat Dave Tobias
Dave M and Charmaine B – our first draw
All in all a good nights golf  BUT the ugly subject of slow golf reared it’s head again. – last 2 groups took 2 ¾ hours waiting on every shot
Following the usual bar room banter, we suggest/reinforce the following:
1.     From now on to win a hole in match play, you have to score 1 stableford point off your society handicap– that way we will not have play slowed down by a 9 beating a 10 for example. If neither player get’s a point the hole is halved!
2.     Let’s go back to ready golf and hitting provisionals if in doubt
3.     Remember the lowest handicapper in the group should take responsibility for ensuring that 2hrs 10 mins should be the maximum. – that is just under 15 mins a hole. Most importantly keep up with the group in front.
4.     Gimme’s within the grip only.

Another great night at the Faldo – you can feel the buzz.
Amazing scores this week, as the US PGA say – these guys are good!!
The winning scores this week reflect a best ever average of 15 points across the field –
1st Richard Aybar with 22 points.
2nd Simon Earl 21 points
3rd Chris Parker and James Owen got 19 points.
Closest to the pins were James Owen on the 12th hole. Fathi Al Busaidy on the 17th hole.- great scoring, we attach the photo of the winners and the latest eclectic! It is certainly getting tougher to win nowadays.
